Get ready for the Cardboard Regatta Challenge!

The cardboard regatta challenges amateur boat builders to unleash their creativity, design, and navigate boats made of corrugated cardboard. But that's not all! Trophies await the sailors who manage to create the longest sailing boat. So prepare to witness some epic feats of maritime engineering as these cardboard captains navigate their way to victory.

The Cardboard Regatta is open to all, with base access and sponsored guests. Plus, it's a fantastic outing for the whole family, suitable for all ages. Best of all, admission is absolutely free!

Regatta Rules 2023

VESSEL DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION:

Boats must be made BEFOR THE RACE. Boat construction materials:

  • 60% or more cardboard Duck tape may be of any color.
  • Vessels maximum beam is: 36” (3ft) & length is 84” (7ft).
  • Vessels, may not be enclosed above the crew’s shoulders (for safety of crew abandoning vessel).
  • Vessels, must be propelled by the use of cardboard & duck tape.
  • Vessels, may be designed in any form as long as it meets rules regulations.
  • Vessels will be inspected pre & post race(s). If illegal construction items are used/discovered by race committee the vessel and team will be disqualified.

TEAMS & CREWS:

  • Teams may consist of 2 to 6 team members (2 will be crew of vessel)
  • Crew must be a 13 years or older.
  • All crew will wear an Coast Guard approved PDF (Personal Flotation Devise)
  • Two crew will start and must end with the two person crew in vessel.
  • Swimming or pulling the vessel will result in a DSQ (Disqualification)
  • Teams start in the deep end and propel their vessel to the shallow end.
  • Race Committee reserve the right to divide entrants into heats, depending on the number of participating teams
  • The winner of each heat will move on to the Final. Preliminary heat time will determine the lane placement of final heat.
  • Awards, for the 1st, 2nd and most creative Teams will be awarded.

*Any rule not specifically covered above will be left to the discretion of the Race Committee and Race Judge.
